Matt Lambert

Lambert completed her degree in illustration in 2003 and since 2010 has dedicated herself completely to art. His work has gained popularity in recent years and his 2017 solo exhibition was notable success. His creations are recognized internationally, and in 2016 The Telegraph highlighted him as one of the ‘UK Artists with Investment Potential’.

In addition to his work as co-founder of Pass It On Africa (PIOA) with his friend James Macdonald, Lambert is one of the organizers of the annual Brighton Heroes Run, a superhero-themed family run along the coast held since 2005. The Heroes Run was instrumental in the development of Lambert’s work around masks and the exploration of identity.

Inspiration and Style

Fusion of fantasy and introspection

Matt Lambert is known for an art style that fuses fantasy with contemporary introspection.

His works, ranging from detailed illustrations to vibrant paintings, capture the essence of human duality and the exploration of hidden identities. Lambert uses meticulous techniques
to create thought-provoking compositions, where characters and landscapes intertwine in visual narratives that challenge conventional perception. Exploring themes ranging from mythology to modern psychology, Lambert uses intense colors and stark contrasts to highlight the emotional complexity of his subjects. His ability to combine figurative elements with subtle symbolism creates works that are not only visually striking, but also invite the viewer to enter a world where the ordinary and the extraordinary merge in a profound exploration of the human condition.

The privilege of witnessing firsthand both the everyday concerns of the developing world and those of my own culture has been amazing.

Career and achievements

Know my story

As co-founder of the charity Pass It On Africa (PIOA) with his best friend James Macdonald,
he is also one of the organizers of the annual Brighton Heroes Run, a superhero-themed
family run along the coast that has been held since 2005. As well as being the main
fundraising event for the PIOA, the event has raised thousands for 20 other charities over
the years. The Heroes Run event was the starting point for Matt’s work on masks and
identity exploration. Projects supported by Lambert through PIOA have funded the construction of schools in Kenya, Ghana, Gambia and Uganda, respectively. This experience has had a profound impact on his artistic work, motivating him to explore fundamental questions about human nature.

Excess and greed are present at both extremes, but so are hope and kindness. The cultural
disparities are huge, but at the same time there are universals of behavior that transcend
culture and that is what drives my ideas.
