Karl Lagasse

Karl Lagasse, born April 4, 1981 in Paris, is a French artist. He is the creator of the One Dollar sculpture, the Cryptogram One sculpture presented at the Monaco art fair, and the trophy for the 43rd edition of the Deauville American Film Festival, among others.

Inspiration and Style

Mix of cultures

Karl Lagasse finds his inspiration from various influences that marked his career from a young age. The suggestion of Yvaral Vasarely in 1998, who motivated him to combine collages and painting, was one of the first impulses for Karl to explore his artistic style.

Later, his creative vision expanded by sculpting after watching “Les Nuits Blanches”, which led him to create his famous “Buildings”, a series of works composed of varied materials that reflect his artistic evolution. The dollar sign, central to his work, becomes an emblem of his admiration for the United States and the ability to make art with something seemingly simple, like a dollar bill.

Lagasse has transformed this icon into a representation of tenacity, freedom and the individual who forges himself, encapsulating universal values and visions both material and spiritual. His art goes beyond the visual; It seeks to convey a deep and transcendental message, documenting what it considers a symbol of the past and the future.
